review: kylie cosmetics gloss

Happy Wednesday, loves! Today we continue our look at Kylie Cosmetics products with one of the lip glosses from the range. The glosses come in 7 shades, 4 of which match colors of the matte liquid lipstick and lipliners. The glosses are $15.00 each and can be found on kyliecosmetics.com.

kylie gloss swatch

I purchased the lipgloss in the shade so cute which is the lightest shade in the range. So Cute is described as a pale beige which I think is a fair description. It has a light vanilla scent but it doesn’t linger once you apply it on your lips.

The gloss is very pigmented but not to the point where you have to be careful when applying it. I own a few of the Anastasia glosses and I actually am not a fan because of how intensely pigmented they are. They are more like a lipstick that is shiny but the texture doesn’t allow for the outline of your lips to look very nice. The Kylie gloss on the other one has a lot of pigment but is perfect for slapping on while you’re on the go.

My favorite part about this gloss is the texture. It is the lightest gloss that I have ever worn but still stays on your lips. I am not a big fan of gloss because it is usually sticky and I hate the way it feels on my lips. This formula is super glossy without being sticky or feeling thick on the lips. This is the only gloss I carry around with me.

Not only is the formula perfect, the color is now one of my go to nudes. So Cute is the perfect nude color for anyone with a light to fair skin tone and anyone darker than that can  use it as a paler shade than their everyday nudes. As her color range expands, there is a gloss that every shade can love. I highly recommend giving these glosses a shot!

review: kylie lip kits

Happy Monday, loves! This week  we are gonna take a look at the lip line the lip legend herself created. We will have a new post Monday, Wednesday, and Friday! For about two months I have been testing out Kylie Cosmetics products and gathering my opinions. I waited quite a while to post a review because her products were nearly impossible to get a hold of and every launch sold out within minutes. In the past few weeks Kylie has increased her output and all her products are much more readily available than before!

Today we take a look at the first product she released, her lip kits. The lip kits include a lip liner and liquid lipstick that come in 18 shades and retail for $29 on kyliecosmetics.com You are now able to purchase the lip liner separately in seven shades for $14.00. You can also purchase the matte liquid lipstick separately in seven shades for $17.00. The authentic Kylie products are only available on kyliecosmetics.com

I purchased the lip kit in exposed. Exposed is described as a warm mid tone beige. This was her most nude toned shade from the original launches that is now complimented by Maliboo which is a more cool toned nude.

As I’m sure many of you have heard there was quite the controversy over Kylie’s lip products being Colourpop lip products just in different packaging. Some sources claim this has been debunked and others claim that they both use the same manufacturers so it is all the same product. I really don’t care to weigh in much but in my experience the products didn’t seem exactly the same. All of this drama between makeup companies lately is just really unnecessary and pathetic as far as I’m concerned but I’m getting off track here.

I absolutely love the lip liner from the kit. it is so creamy and feels much more comfortable than most on the lips. The texture is similar to the colourpop liners but it is not nearly as patchy as the colourpop ones can be when you fill in your whole lips.

The liquid lip feels very liquid in texture and takes a little longer to dry than some of the other ones I own. It is fairly drying but most matte long wearing lips are. I just suggest putting on a Chapstick before you apply the product. I don’t think the Kylie lip lasts as long as some of my others such as Anastasia but that one is way more drying than the Kylie. It will still last many hours but my Anastasia will last literally all day without budging.

My biggest downfall of this lipstick is the color. I chose Exposed because of all the incredible pictures on Instagram. I had seen Kylie wear it in dozens of pictures. I had seen swatch videos and hundreds of pictures of customers and PR faces wearing it. Sure it looked different on various people but it always looked like it was in the nude realm of shades.

This color looks nothing like what it does in the tube. In the packaging (which does show the actual product) it looks like a warm peachy nude, once it touches my lips it is a very “mid toned” brown. It isn’t a lip I could wear every day because it dries as quite the statement lip. At first I thought maybe it was just me and my skin tone and my lip pigmentation and what not but I soon heard from other friends who had the exact same problem. I actually find this change in shade a lot in nude liquid lipsticks but the fact that some people had a nice everyday shade and some ended up with a bold brown shows inconsistency in the product which I think is unacceptable especially at those prices.

My recommendation would be to look into the lip liners individually if you are looking for a little splurge and go with a judgement call on the actual lipstick. I would definitely stay away from exposed but inconsistency problems aren’t as prevalent in the other shades. If you’d like me to take a look at some of the other shades or newer releases from Kylie such as her eyeshadows and liners, leave a comment!

review: marc jacobs air blush

Happy Monday, loves! I’m sorry I missed last weeks post. I hope you can all forgive me!! A few weeks ago I received a product from Influenster that I have been dying to share with all of you. Recently Marc Jacobs Beauty came out with their new air blush dual toned blush. I haven’t really tried much of the Marc Jacobs line besides what I’ve gotten in Sephora point perks and such so I was ecstatic to see if the products live up to the price tags.

prices range:

$42.00 on marcjacobsbeauty.com

$42.00 on sephora.com

The soft glow duo currently comes in 5 shades. I received the shade Kink and Kisses which is described as a pale petal and a peachy rose. The blush is packaged as a gradient so you can use the light shade, the darker shade, or mix them together for a medium toned rose.

the far right swatch is the light shade, then the dark shade, then the two swirled together

The lighter of the two shades has a light micro shimmer that helps to create glory cheeks that make you look rosy and healthy. Marc beauty recommends a few ways of applying the blush but I still just swirl the colors together so I get a flushed cheek.

Since Marc Beauty brought these blushes out, the line has been promoting the application method of ‘draping’. They claim that draping will give you a sculpted, lifted, glowing look. Draping is basically a really fancy way to say wearing blush without contouring or highlighting.

I gave draping a shot and the blush did look beautiful but as most of you know I am a drama queen and I need that contour and highlight just to breathe. I personally like more structure and glow than a single blush can provide. If you are more low maintenance you may really enjoy the technique.

I am absolutely adoring this blush. It has been my go to since I got it. It is so silky and smooth not only when you swatch it but also when you blend it onto the cheeks. The micro shimmer is fine enough that it looks like a glow and not a patch of glitter. It has great color payoff without being so pigmented that you need to be careful when you apply it. You can have a subtle flush with one swipe or build it up to a more dramatic look.

I absolutely recommend these blushes and think that they are worth the price. If you are looking to indulge or have been eyeing Marc products for a while I would suggest giving these a shot.

review: make up for ever smoky extravagant mascara

Happy Friday, loves! Today we wrap up our look at high end mascaras with a spotlight on highly rated Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant mascara.

prices range:

$24.00 at makeupforever.com

$24.00 at sephora.com

MUF smoky mascara package open

This product claims to build volume, lengthen, and curl. I wish I could even focus on those claims but it was impossible to even think of those things.

MUF smoky mascara wand

The pictures don’t really capture the massiveness of this brush. It is basically the size of my entire eye. As soon as you bring this brush towards your eye, mascara is everywhere. I actually laughed out loud when doing research for this post and seeing that MUF calls this a precision mascara. I think even for the most experienced makeup artists this brush is so huge and you have such little control that mascara will end up everywhere.

I highly suggest not wasting $24 on this mascara. Soon we will be taking a look at some drugstore alternatives. Let me know if there are any other high end or drugstore mascaras you would like to see on the blog.

review: benefit they’re real mascara

Happy Thursday, loves! As we continue on with our feature on high end mascara with one of Sephora’s best selling mascaras. Benefit’s They’re Real claims to make your lashes look so much like falsies that you’ll have to actually tell people they are real.

prices range:

$22.00 at benefitcosmetics.com in a set with a deluxe sample of liner and remover

$24.00 at benefitcosmetics.com

$24.00 at sephora.com

$24.oo at ulta.com (free gift w/ purchase)

benefit theyre real mascara package open

They’re Real has a rubber bristled brush (say that five times fast). There are mostly really short bristles mixed in with some medium length to get in to the root of the lash. At the end of the wand the bristles come to a little half circle that is intended for the inner corner lashes and lower lashes.

benefit theyre real mascara wand

Now this mascara claims to lengthen your lashes to new heights but I think it is underwhelming. I find that it is such a wet formula that it really clumps your lashes together. You also have to be careful to not blink too aggressively or you’ll ruin your eyeshadow.

Similar to the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, the brush comes out with way too much product. The bristled end only useful if you wipe off the extra product at least 5 times and even then its very easy to get mascara on the inner corners and lower lids.

Im actually really surprised that it is so highly acclaimed on beauty sites because it doesn’t give impressive length and is just a wet spidery mess. If you want to give it a shot I highly recommend trying out the smaller version to see if its worth your money. I had the same problem as the Benefit Roller Lash with it irritating my eyes so I would keep that in mind.

review: mac gigiblack lash mascara

Happy Wednesday, loves! Today we continue our spotlight on high end mascara with a look at the M.A.C mascara Jaclyn Hill has popularized. If you’ve ever watched a Jaclyn Hill tutorial you’ve probably seen her use this mascara even if its just on her bottom lashes. With her rave reviews in mind, I decided to pick it up and see if it lived up to all her hype.

prices range:

$18.00 at maccosmetics.com

$18.00 at macys.com

$18.00 at nordstrom

mac gigiblack mascara package open

With the first use, it was easy to tell that Jaclyn had not overstated her opinions on this mascara. Now if you want a ton of volume and super dramatic lashes then this is not the mascara you are looking for. But if you’re a fan of natural lash days or a falsie fanatic like me, then this mascara could jump its way to number one on your list.

mac gigiblack mascara wand

I would say I have pretty average lashes and this mascara just amplifies their natural beauty. I get tons of compliments when I wear just this mascara with no liner. I find that since the brush is so thin you can really get to the root and make your lashes long and feathered to where your eyes look bright and open.

This is the only mascara I wear if I am gonna apply fans lashes. It makes your lashes dark while still natural enough to blend in with lashes so you don’t see the distinction between the false lash hairs and your lashes (not a cute look). The small wand is also perfect for the lower lashes. You can get to the root and really define each lash without getting mascara all over your lower lid.

This mascara has easily made its way to the front of my drawer and looks like it could stay there for quite a while. If you like more simple everyday lashes with lots of length or you want your falsies to look flawless, definitely give it a shot! It is easily worth the fairly reasonable price tag!

review: too faced better than sex mascara

Happy Tuesday, loves! Today we continue with our look at high end mascaras. The Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara has become a cult favorite to many in the beauty community. I tried this out a few years ago but repurchased again to review it for you all.

prices range:

$23.00 at sephora.com

$23.00 at too faced.com (free shipping with any better than sex mascara purchase)

$23.00 at ulta.com

too faced mascara package open

The wand is an hourglass shape with with long natural bristles. The shape of the wand is perfect to hug the natural eye shape. But the brush picks up way too much product. To have even a relatively clean application you have to wipe off the excess at least ten times.

too faced mascara wand

Even once you wipe all the excess product the formula of the mascara is so thick that it is nearly impossible to keep it from clumping. The mascara also dries out really quickly (especially for $23) and once it starts to dry out, it will flake throughout the day and leave a polka dot mess in your concealer.

I would not recommend dropping $23 on a sub par mascara. There are much better formulas in the high end arena and even in the drugstore. If your really wanting to try this one out try the travel size for $12 (which I still think is way too expensive for what your getting, you can get great mascara for less than $9 that’s full size).
