review: nivea men’s post shave balm

Hey loves! Happy 4th of July to all my US readers! Today we are gonna take a look at the primer that Nikkie Tutorials made completely viral. To be honest, when I saw everyone talking about using a men’s after shave as a foundation primer I was entirely skeptical. But I decided to give it a shot anyways, especially since it didn’t eat a hole in my pocket to test it out!

I purchased the sensitive version of the post shave balm per Nikkie’s recommendation so I can’t speak on behalf of the other versions (cooling, etc.) but I imagine they would be very similar if not the same as a primer.

I think calling this product a “balm” is misleading because it is completely liquid. It is the normal texture of any after shave men may use & it certainly smells like after shave too. I don’t mind the scent but it could be off putting to people who don’t like that manly smell, luckily it goes away very quickly.

I’ve been trying this as a primer for over a month and I didn’t really think it was doing much until a few days ago when I did a half face test against the Make Up Forever Step 1 Smoothing Primer ($37).

I applied the post shave balm to one half of my face, and the MUF smoothing primer to the other half of my face. I then applied the Loreal Pro Glow foundation on top (review to come soon!) and finished the rest of my face.

At first look I didn’t think one looked significantly better than the other but as the day went on there was a clear winner. I had applied my makeup around 9am and by 5pm or so the Nivea side looked much better than the MUF side. The foundation hadn’t broken up at all and my blush and highlight looked as thought I had just applied them. On the MUF side my highlight was nearly gone and the imperfections I had been covering up were beginning to peak through.

The Nivea side held up for twelve hours while still looking really nice and holding my cheek products. I would definitely recommend giving the post shave balm a try as a foundation primer especially at such a great price!!

As always please recommend any other products you would like to see me test out! Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog on the right hand side of the page, so you receive updates when I post. Thanks for all the love & support. Talk to you monday, loves.
